You can now call 078 170 170 (instead of 070 344 344) to block your debit card (Bancontact/Mister Cash, ...) or credit card (Mastercard, Visa, ...) in case of theft, loss or fraud. If you are calling from outside Belgium, please dial +32 78 170 170.
The new number is not surcharged, unlike the old one which costs €0.30/minute on top of the normal rate. As it was not possible to remove the surcharge from an 070 number, it was necessary to change the number. But there will be a transition period of several years during which both numbers will be active.
For the rest, nothing changes. The new number is also available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in French, Dutch and English, from Belgium and abroad.
When to call Card Stop?
You can call Card Stop if your debit or credit card is lost or stolen, or if there is fraud. Card Stop will block your payment cards.
Similarly, if you still have your card and you don't recognise certain transactions on your account statements, or if you have given your pin code or response code to a fraudster, call Card Stop and your bank. Since last month, the Card Stop website has a new page with all contact information by bank (in French or Dutch).
A tip: save the new number in your contacts now so that you always have it to hand, as it is essential to react very quickly if your card has been lost, stolen or if you fear fraud.
