Payment settlement: beware of fraudulent emails

Numerous emails are currently circulating in the name of the Federal Public Service Finance.

This email informs you that an amount of €42 must be settled for your 2024 tax year.

The email contains the bank details to which the amount must be paid.

Be careful, this is a phishing email. It does not come from the FPS Finance, but from fraudsters (see screenshot below)

What should you look out for?

  • The message looks credible and contains several references.
  • The message emphasises the urgency. A payment deadline is mentioned.
  • Check the sender's email address. You will see that it is not an official email address.
  • The email is not addressed to you personally.

Have you received this message?

  • Never make a transfer based on an email you have received. Instead, log on to the secure MyMinfin platform to check your situation.
  • Do not click on a link in a suspicious message, do not open attachments and do not download applications when prompted to do so.
  • Suspicious emails can be forwarded to suspect@safeonweb.be.

Have you been the victim of a scam?

  • If you have lost money or have been the victim of extortion, we advise you to make a statement to the police. You can report it to the local police in your place of residence.
