Numerous emails are currently circulating in the name of the Federal Public Service Finance.
This email informs you that an amount of €42 must be settled for your 2024 tax year.
The email contains the bank details to which the amount must be paid.
Be careful, this is a phishing email. It does not come from the FPS Finance, but from fraudsters (see screenshot below)
What should you look out for?
- The message looks credible and contains several references.
- The message emphasises the urgency. A payment deadline is mentioned.
- Check the sender's email address. You will see that it is not an official email address.
- The email is not addressed to you personally.
Have you received this message?
- Never make a transfer based on an email you have received. Instead, log on to the secure MyMinfin platform to check your situation.
- Do not click on a link in a suspicious message, do not open attachments and do not download applications when prompted to do so.
- Suspicious emails can be forwarded to suspect@safeonweb.be.
Have you clicked on a suspicious link?
- If you have clicked, do not fill in the fields and abandon any interaction.
- NEVER give out personal codes.
- If you have sent a password that you also use elsewhere, change it immediately.
Have you been the victim of a scam?
- If you have lost money or have been the victim of extortion, we advise you to make a statement to the police. You can report it to the local police in your place of residence.
- Contact your bank and/or Card Stop on 078 170 170 if you have passed on any bank details, if money disappears from your bank account or if you have transferred money to a fraudster. This way, any fraudulent transactions can be blocked.
