On Tuesday 4 May, Belnet fell victim to a large-scale DDoS attack. All institutions connected to the Belnet network were affected by the incident. About 200 organizations, including universities, government agencies and research institutions, were hit.
The attack caused a lot of inconvenience: people working from home were hampered by the slow network, online services and government websites were temporarily unavailable, and online classes at universities were disrupted.
