Safe online: Be careful if you download games from the Internet!

Smartphones, gaming consoles or computers offer a source of relaxation in this lockdown period. The Internet allows you to find games but also brings the risk of hacking. Beware!

Our morale has been suffering for over a year. Sources of entertainment like smartphones, gaming consoles or computers provide us with a welcome distraction. However, they are also a source of risk if you or your child downloads games from the Internet.

Corporate digital security firm Proofpoint recently reported the activity of the Copperstealer malware on various download sites. « Once present, the software will contact your browser and collect passwords from your accounts such as, for example, Facebook, Instagram, Amazon, Google and others", warns Commissioner Olivier Bogaert, a specialist in cyber security at the Federal Police.

Hackers will be able to retrieve a lot of user information and impersonate you by sending messages to your contacts. Not to mention all the ads..." Victims may allow hackers to access data associated with their credit card. And the cardholder may get a surprise on their bill at the end of the month.»

Enable two-step authentication!

Proofpoint also highlights that this virus will allow other malware to be installed. « To date, this malware is particularly active in South America or in countries like India and Pakistan. But let's be careful, because the platforms that offer illegal content are active all over the world", warns the commissioner.

We would like to remind you once again of the importance of two-step authentication.  In addition to your username and password, you will need to provide a code generated by an application installed on your phone. " This way, even if the hackers have accessed your data, they won't be able to access the relevant services."
